This Saturday the Divers24 team, with the support of a number of friends, will be visiting the Russian Federation. The occasion is a festival organised by the World Ocean Museum there. The event is scheduled for Saturday 12 September and, by all accounts, will be a very big event. In view of this turn of events, we could not miss it.
During the festival everything will revolve around one main theme – water. The museum’s main objective is to preserve and pass on to future generations the heritage associated with water, the sea and man’s relationship with this beautiful element.
During our previous visit, we had the opportunity to get acquainted with what the museum and its employees do and with its possibilities, which are enormous. Suffice it to say that the Ocean Museum is the largest in the entire Kaliningrad region and the only one subsidised directly by the local Ministry of Culture.
Located on the Pregoła River, in addition to several buildings filled with exhibitions, it has many interesting outdoor objects. Among them are a hydrofoil, a nuclear submarine “B-413”, a ship for research in the Arctic “Vityaz”, “Cosmonaut Viktor Pacayev” – the only museum ship in the world equipped with apparatus for communication with space, and a fishing boat “SRT-129” or an icebreaker “Krasin”.
Among the collections of the museum, apart from a very interesting edifice filled with aquariums with fish species from all over the world, you will also find halls full of artefacts related to the history of nautical science, as well as military operations carried out on the Baltic during the First and Second World Wars.
The festival is a continuation of the efforts made by the museum since 2011, within the framework of the maritime heritage protection programme. Its aim is to popularise historical knowledge about ships and their construction, to develop interest in sailing and navigation among young people and to promote maritime history.
Polish accent, in addition to the presence of a delegation of several people, will be the presentation and opportunity to dive in retro equipment. All thanks to the team of the diving club “Płetwal” from Giżycko!
In order not to waste even a moment of this weekend, for Sunday we planned a joint trip from Kaliningrad to Amber Lake. After recognizing the area in summer, we are coming back with a bigger team to check the conditions in Yantarny in early autumn. You will surely find an account of our trip on the website soon!
