In the capital of Warmia – Olsztyn, tradition will once again be fulfilled. The local Academic Diving Club “Skorpena” for the ninth time organizes a rafting trip down the Łyna River. The event is permanently inscribed in the diving calendar and from year to year enjoys great popularity among divers in the whole country.
The date of this year’s canoeing rally has been set for Saturday 17 March. Traditionally, the gathering and registration of participants takes place in the university town Kortowo, where AKP “Skorpena” has its headquarters. Then the participants are transported to the starting point and at noon they jump into the waters of the Łyna River and set off downstream towards St John’s Bridge in the Olsztyn Old Town.
Last year’s 8th edition gathered 409 participants and over 700 people in total, all wanting to have fun and celebrate together. Skorpenowy Spływowy Łyną (Scorpen Rafting on the Łyna) is an event, which brings together whole families, diving clubs, formal and informal groups, expeditions organised by centres, and a whole lot of people who just want to have fun in a diving atmosphere.
It is already a tradition that in addition to a diving costume, a costume prepared for the occasion is welcome. The most imaginative costume will be rewarded with an attractive prize. Last year it was a breathing apparatus.
Apart from the award for the most creative participant in the canoeing rally, everyone who decides to jump into the water has a chance to win interesting and valuable gifts. After the usual lunch, prizes donated by sponsors will be drawn among the participants. Just like last year, the main prize will be a tailor-made Santi E.lite dry suit. You can read more about the prizes and gifts here.
As the main attraction of the evening, the organisers have announced the performance of the K.O.M.P. band, whose vocalist and keyboard player is Paweł Ejzenberg, known for his phenomenal performances in one of the music programmes on TVN.
In 2011. I had the pleasure to participate in this fantastic event and I heartily recommend participation to everyone who appreciates good fun in a diving group. Online enrolment You can find out more about the rules here, and you can find out more about the rules during the rafting in regulations. For the first 450 people the organisers have prepared diving souvenirs!
