An educational diving centre has opened in Malta. With this, the International School of Diving Safety and Medicine (ISDSM) has opened its new premises.

The International School of Diving Safety and Medicine (ISDSM) has just opened its new premises at the Institute of Tourism Studies (ITS) campus in Qala on the island of Gozo. The opening was marked by a press conference held on the 22nd of July. It was attended by the Minister for Tourism, the Minister for Gozo and representatives from ITS, DAN Europe and PADI, among others.

The new premises represent an investment of almost €60,000. The whole includes, among others, the highest class diving and diving safety equipment. Therefore, it is worth emphasising that some of the new equipment is the only such equipment available on Malta.

ISDSM, which was launched in 2017, is the result of an agreement between ITS and DAN Europe in collaboration with the Professional Diving Schools Association (PDSA). The aim is to promote a broad academic education programme. The idea is to develop specific curricula in diving safety and research and medicine. In implementing the programme, the developers want to focus on the sustainable development of the diving industry.

Diving studies

Thanks to ISDSM, a Bachelor’s degree in Diving Safety Management was launched in 2020. In turn, practical sessions were inaugurated today in the new ITS facilities on Gozo. The pioneering course of study in diving safety management has attracted a lot of interest worldwide from the very beginning.

It is undoubtedly amazing to see how this project develops year after year. Even in times of great uncertainty, such as the one we live in. Because the BA is an ambitious, internationally unique and unprecedented academic programme. said the CEO and founder of DAN Europe, Professor Alessandro Marroni.

It was also announced at the event that dive centres will be offered a free course in the coming weeks. The training will focus on air quality in diving cylinders and compressors. These courses are made possible by equipment located at the ISDSM headquarters on the ITS campus in Gozo.
