Impressions after the Baltictech 2017 conference

The long awaited conference for technical divers – Baltictech 2017 has come to an end. After two years of waiting, appetites were high and the organisers had a lot to think about and work on to meet expectations. Hot on the heels of the event, it can be said that once again they have managed to rise to the occasion.

The first day and from the very beginning a high pace, intense impressions and extremely interesting lectures. Long-lost friends and a lot of things that everyone wanted to see as soon as possible. There was an atmosphere of raised enthusiasm and excitement, and the corridors of the Pomeranian Science and Technology Park quickly became overcrowded with diving brothers.

After the official opening of the conference, it was time for the lectures. These were organised in three halls, so it was natural that our choice had to be deliberate. Fortunately, if we were oriented towards a particular topic – wrecks, caves, equipment, medicine, etc. – we could easily see everything that might interest us.

We must admit that such an arrangement of speakers was certainly not a coincidence and we would like to praise the organisers for the time and effort they devoted to this issue. It is also worth noting the appearance of the Baltictech application, thanks to which we could stay up to date at all times. A glance at your phone screen was enough to know what, where and when was happening. A big plus and something we will definitely see next year.

As during the previous editions, which took place in PPNT, the conference was held on two floors of building No. III. The corridors were tightly filled with stands where one could meet both Polish and foreign exhibitors.

So we had loads of diving equipment in all forms. From the basic, through the extremely advanced, to the afterdive clothing. So we could ask about every detail and issue of interest to us and listen to the source. It is worth noting that there was no lack of novelties and premieres. Although these usually appeared at events typically aimed at the presentation of equipment, we can see a departure from this trend. Thus, it can be seen that Baltictech is perceived by the manufacturers as an important date in the diving calendar and an event during which a large group of customers can be reached.

Another thing that cannot go unmentioned is the symbolic appearance of the one, who I am sure for many has been sorely missed, and who is one of the fathers of Baltictech’s success. We are of course talking about Dimitris Stavrakakis. His colleagues made sure that “Dima” also had his moment at this year’s conference. For the regulars of Baltictech, this moment probably made them realise that something has changed and that an extremely colourful and seemingly inseparable element will always be missing.

Baltictech is also a mass of emotions and great fun. Especially during the prize draw or the awarding of prizes in many prestigious categories. This year was no different, with the lucky winners receiving, among other things, a SUEX XJ37 scooter, a SANTI Flex 360 thermal pad, a BCD Halcyon Adventure +30 set or SHEARWATER Nerd 2 and SUUNTO EON Core computers.

For two days the participants of Baltictech 2017 were served probably everything they could expect from a conference for technical divers. Of course, everyone could find elements that need improvement, but such suggestions certainly reached the ears of the organisers, who were present in every place for two days and looked after everything. So we can gently raise the bar for them and expect that in two years’ time, during Baltictech 2019, even more, even better organised attractions will be waiting for us. And now? Well… all we can do is wait!
