This weekend, Plymouth will host the highly anticipated Guz Tech Conference 2024, an engaging and informative gathering of technology enthusiasts, professionals, and innovators. Here’s what you need to know about this exciting event.

Friday Meet & Drinks

Kickstart the weekend on Friday evening with an informal Meet & Drinks session at the Dolphin Pub, located at 14 The Barbican, Barbican, Plymouth PL1 2LS. It’s a perfect opportunity to mingle with fellow attendees and organizers in a relaxed atmosphere. Bonus points for wearing Guz.tech apparel!

Saturday Conference at Roland Levinsky Building

The main conference will take place in the Roland Levinsky Building at the University of Plymouth, a prominent venue on the Drake Circus roundabout. Doors open at 8:00 AM, with the conference starting promptly at 9:00 AM. Packed with insightful talks from industry leaders, the program promises to inspire thought and discussion. Accessibility is thoughtfully considered, with disabled access available at the rear (north) of the building.

Tickets and Check-In

Bring your email confirmation as proof of ticket purchase. On arrival, visit the desk by the Conference Hall entrance to check in and collect your wristband. Those who placed orders before November 11 will also receive their Guz.tech clothing and mugs here.

Networking and Refreshments

Throughout the day, tea and coffee will be provided during morning and afternoon breaks. For additional refreshments, the onsite Container Café will open at 8:00 AM, serving a selection of teas, coffees, and snacks. If you’ve pre-ordered Pasty and Pop, it will be available at lunchtime—just have your order confirmation email ready.

After the conference, join the speakers and organizers in the Atrium, just outside the Lecture Theatre, to unwind over a beer or two. The Container Café will remain open for drinks into the evening.

Post-Conference Curry

Finish the day with a lively Post-Conference Curry at Mombay Brasserie (Unit 1, Penrose House, 4 Sutton Road, Lockyers Quay, Plymouth PL4 0DX) at 7:00 PM. It’s a great way to end the weekend with good food and continued conversation.

Travel and Parking Tips

The University of Plymouth is within walking distance of Plymouth’s Railway and Bus Stations. If driving, note that onsite parking isn’t available; however, nearby options include Drake Circus and Regent Street car parks. Park and Ride services are also available for convenience.

The Name: Guz Tech

The UK’s technical diving conference based here in Plymouth (‘Guz’ is the old naval term for Plymouth dockyard) and is now in its second year of running. Hosted at the University of Plymouth, the conference showcases the best of British technical diving and shipwreck discovery.
