Leo Morales is an extraordinary figure. Probably not many of you have heard of him, but his story can be an inspiration for anyone who has found themselves in a difficult situation. Despite health problems that ended in the loss of his leg, Leo never gave up diving. What’s more, it was by diving that he set his Guinness World Record!

Everything changed in Leo Morales’ life in 2009. Then he was diagnosed with an extremely aggressive form of cancer. As a result, his entire right leg was amputated. For many, this would have been a blow from which they could never recover, especially if they had led an active life at an early age.

However, Leo decided to return to diving shortly after the operation. His first dive, however, was not particularly successful. The new situation did not allow him to find himself and enjoy being under water. Fortunately, during his next dive, everything changed and the new situation was no longer uncomfortable.

“This second dive was something different. I could float without any problem and the lack of one leg was no longer a problem for me. Suddenly the whole weight of the world around me was off me. I was free and had a purpose again. Ifinally found a place where I didn’t feel disabled,” Leo describes his experience

In 2012. Morales set a new Guinness World Record for technical diving. He became the first disabled diver to descend to a depth of 125 metres! Probably also thanks to the fame he gained with this feat, he became an ambassador of the Intova brand, which produces cameras for divers, among other things.

Now Leo Morales is preparing for another record, which he has planned to attempt in February 2016. The dive will be conducted in cenotes and will involve both depth and the exploration of the cave system itself.
