Grand opening of the Pszczyna Reservoirs

The grand opening of the Pszczyna Reservoirs will take place on 14-15 July 2018 on the premises of the Reservoirs in Pszczyna Osiedle Piastów, Bolesława Śmiałego Street. Along with the opening will be held Diving Demo Days and an international meeting of the diving organization IANTD CE. First aid courses and demonstrations by the Beskid Divers Diving Centre, presentations by diving companies for diving instructors.

Pszczyna has been enriched with a new technical infrastructure facility. The existing for over 20 years unused water tanks located in the Piastów residential area were adapted as a water drawing point for fire protection purposes and as a source of water for sanitary needs in emergency situations. Additionally, the facility has been prepared for overhead diving training.

Both reservoirs are 11 metres in diameter and 6 metres deep. On one of them open water training can be carried out. The other is closed with a concrete cover, which makes it possible to conduct overhead training. The two tanks are connected by two pipes so that both can be used during one training session. The tanks are ideal for training both beginners and experienced divers.

The National Fire Service and specialist rescue services have already shown an interest. The State Fire Service and specialist rescue services have already shown interest.
The idea came about as early as 2016, when the PIK Board decided to modernise and expand the facility. The original plan was to demolish the existing tanks. However, a calculation indicated that a cheaper solution would be to adapt to the above-mentioned functions.

In spring 2016, the first works started. On one of the tanks, the top concrete cover was demolished. This allowed the facility to be adapted for open tank training. The other tank remained closed. Already then it was clear that it was ideally suited for conducting overhead diving training.

The next stage of work was to fill in the gaps in the screed and walls, as well as installing the posts that allow the safety net to be hung. As a result, PIK has pledged to carry out most of the adaptation work within spare capacity.

One of the most important construction stages was to cut a hole that would allow proper water circulation and at the same time serve as a connection between the tanks. Inside the closed tank, preparations began for the construction of tunnels, as well as a place to perform all the exercises that the trainee performs during the Overhead course.

Entry is free, on presentation of a diving certificate. More information can be found here.
