The derby between Manchester United and Manchester City is about to begin. Although tension is running high as both teams occupy the 1st and 2nd place in the league table, we are not going to write about football here… However, it is a good opportunity to mention an interesting underwater session, which has been recently reported in the Czech media.

Football legend from our southern neighbours’ country, Karel Poborsky, has once again donned the Manchester United leotard. This time, however, not to run out onto the Old Trafford pitch, but to jump into the pool, where he took part in an underwater photo shoot organised by Lucie Drilkova.

As it turns out, after his sporting retirement, one of the biggest stars of the European Championships held in 1996 found an interesting hobby. To stay in shape Karel Poborsky started freediving. This is how the former footballer’s paths crossed with the underwater world.

Drilkova, who specialises in underwater photography, met Poborski at last year’s edition of the international film festival “Water, Seas & Oceans”. The event is organised every year in Hluboká, the town the footballer comes from and he was the guest of honour there. Drilkova’s underwater photos were of great interest to Karel and from word to word, the idea for a joint session was born.

[blockquote style=”2″]”I was very impressed with Karel’s endurance and his capabilities underwater. The session lasted 4h and he performed brilliantly in that time. Why Manchester United? I don’t know much about football. Of course I knew who Karel was, I think everyone in the Czech Republic knows that, but he was the one who chose the outfit.” – praised the footballer Drilkova[/blockquote].

It turns out that the session went so well that the Czech is planning another one. In an interview with Czech media she revealed that she plans to take 3-4 more athletes under water, including representatives of such sports as hockey and tennis.
