An unusual situation occurred in Citrus County, Florida, USA. In a place known as Three Sisters Springs, a real invasion was arranged by more than 300… manatees! These cute and gentle herbivorous creatures are known to be excellent swimmers.

The situation reported by local media in Florida has taken everyone by surprise. At an unprecedented rate, more manatees appeared in Three Sisters Spring, which is considered a haven of peace (no boats allowed, difficult access).

It all started around midday. Volunteers quickly organised themselves and decided to count the flock that had visited the springs. Between 1 p.m. and 1.30 p.m., 293 were counted. Moments later, their number had already exceeded 300. In view of these unusual visits, US Fish and Wildlife officials decided to temporarily close Three Springs Sisters to tourists.

Of course, we understand the decision to close the basin, but it is hard not to wonder for a moment what it would be like to snoork among such a herd of these gentle giants. In everyday life, manatees are found in the waters of the western part of the Atlantic from Florida to northern Brazil and the Amazon and Orinoco basins.
