Just a few hours ago, Finnish freediver Johanna Nordblad set a women’s world record for the distance swum under the ice. Such feats are not recognised by the largest freediving federation, AIDA, but an entry in the Guinness Book of Records is no small thing.
From the details that have emerged so far on the social networks where the event is described, we know that the distance covered is 50m horizontally (i.e. from ice hole to ice hole). Johanna did not use any fins or wetsuit during the attempt! All her equipment consisted of a swimsuit, swimming cap and goggles.
The record was set on the occasion of the diving and freediving event Päijänne on the Rocks 2015, held in Pulkkilanharju, Finland.
Not long ago, the video above, in which Stig Severinsen sets a Guinness men’s record by running a distance of 76.2m, broke records for popularity. His attempt took place in September 2013.
