The first day of 2019 CMAS Freediving Indoor European Championship – Istanbul is behind us and already two medals on the account of the Polish team! First of all, the gold medal and a new world record – 196.98 m by Julia Kozerska, set in the dynamic swimming without fins – DNF competition, deserve recognition.

Mateusz Malina also showed a good performance. Our leading competitor in the dynamic swimming without fins – DNF, achieved a result of 234.29 m (a new world record), but in the further part of the competition he was defeated by the Frenchman Guillaume Bourdil (236 m) and eventually took second place and for a good start of the championships won the silver medal.

Unfortunately, one of our best competitors and the world record holder in DNF competition – Magdalena Solich-Talanda – will not be able to count her start as a success for sure. During her start, after reaching 187.22 m, the Pole failed to complete the surface procedure.

The first day certainly could have ended better for the Polish team, but one cannot always achieve the maximum result. Appetites were enormous, because what can I say, our athletes simply accustomed us to their phenomenal disposal. It is enough if we recall how fantastic they were in DNF competition during last year’s World Championships in Belgrade, where Mateusz Malina and Magdalena Solich-Talanda won gold medals and Julia Kozerska won silver.

It remains for us to congratulate on a very good start and wish even more success in the next days of competition. The bag with medals has been solved, so we hope that this is not the end of beautiful moments for the red and white team!
