We are talking about the TETRA system, which is to improve communication between SAR vessels and the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre. Tests have confirmed the effectiveness and usefulness of the system, and now Polish rescuers will be able to use solutions available to colleagues from Norway, Finland, Denmark, Belgium or even Lithuania.
[blockquote style=”2″]”Energa was the only company in Poland to introduce the TETRA system – a digital communication system independent of mobile operators – on such a large scale. Thanks to safeguards applied, it is more reliable in case of natural disasters and mass failures. The network covers the entire distribution area of the Group, and 85%. of the Polish coastline – from Kołobrzeg to the eastern border of the Polish part of the Baltic Sea. Therefore, Energa will make some of the system’s functionalities available to the Maritime Search and Rescue Service (SAR)”. – says Daniel Obajtek, President of Energa SA[/blockquote].
The experience of past years, including the passage of the Ksawery storm in 2013 and the communication problems that arose then, was one of the reasons for Energa making its communication system available. Now, even in the most adverse conditions, SAR rescuers will have a reliable communication system available.
[blockquote style=”2″]”This type of approach is a perfect example of economic patriotism – once invested, money should be used as effectively as possible. Providing access to the communication system lowers the entry barrier to modern communication solutions for SAR service, while Energa builds an image of a socially engaged company strengthening the international position of Poland” – convinces Dorota Arciszewska-Mielewczyk, MP, Chairwoman of the Maritime Economy and Inland Navigation Committee.[/blockquote]
The Maritime Search and Rescue Service (MSPiR), based in Gdynia, is better known as SAR (Search And Rescue). It was established in 2002 and its tasks include providing assistance and eliminating threats in the so-called Polish area of responsibility.
[blockquote style=”2″]”Lifeguards provide assistance to all people at sea, whether they are tourists, commercial, fishing or passenger vessels. We also combat oil and chemical hazards and pollution in the marine environment” – says Maciej Zawadzki, director of the Maritime Search and Rescue Service[/blockquote].
TETRA is a system developed by the European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI). It is a secure communications standard dedicated to industry and government services, intended to provide continuous communications in all types of emergency situations.
