Relatively recently we presented you on Divers24, a computer simulation of diving, under the title Depth. The game, despite being about diving, is in itself quite specific. Its main objective is to fight between players – divers and players – sharks, which may not be to everyone’s liking, and it is certainly hard to call it a title for younger audiences. However, there are alternative publishers on the market and today I will talk about them.
Endless Ocean – Blue World and Endles Ocean 2 – Adventures of the deep are titles released for the Wii console that, at first glance, are uncomplicated diving simulators… and so they are. However, to say that they are nothing more than that is misleading, as both offer quite a lot.
What strikes you first when trying to review Endless Ocean is that it is hard to determine the target audience for which the game was created. This is influenced by the open-ended storyline, the lack of missions, quests or any requirements to progress further.
Both parts, of course, differ from each other. While in the first part it was mainly about swimming and relaxing among colourful reefs, discovering the underwater world and identifying subsequent species of sea creatures, in the sequel the gameplay has been expanded by e.g. finding and penetrating wrecks, extracting treasures, as well as meetings with dangerous animals, such as sharks, from which we will be forced to run away.
The game will provide everyone with hours of great fun. It will allow you to relax and unwind, and at the same time it is not devoid of an educational aspect. In the course of our underwater travels we will be able to identify and learn a little bit more about each encountered animal. We will create a collection of our own notes, in which all the information provided by the game will be recorded. We will learn many details characteristic for a given species, we will get to know the places of their occurrence, etc. But it won’t be that easy, because the reality of the world created by the authors of EO, makes that we will meet certain species only in specific places and at specific times. For some people this will be an advantage, for others maybe not so much.
For hardcore gamers, the graphics won’t be something smashing, but for us – divers, especially those who don’t enjoy this type of entertainment on a daily basis, immersion in EO can be quite an enjoyable experience. In turn, for our kids, it can be a great opportunity to instill in them the beauty of the underwater world, combining business with pleasure (yes, yes we’re growing a partner for old age :P).
