Last weekend in the UK, the Vobster Quay dive centre came together for a worthy cause, as it does every year. 175 divers dressed as Father Christmas dived simultaneously into the cold water of a nearby lake to raise money for the Royal National Lifeboat Institution – a charity that provides assistance at sea around the UK , Ireland, Channel Islands and selected inland waterways.

No one seemed to mind the red outfits, fluffy beards and hats. Everyone was delighted to find that the world record of 161 diving Santas from 2011 had been broken. There were some amazing prizes up for grabs this year, which really helped with the fundraising.

The effort of those involved was rewarded by news of the funds raised, which came to a rounded sum of £5,000. The weather was very good and there was hot tea and tasty snacks waiting for the daredevils on the surface. Congratulations to all the participants on a great Christmas campaign!
