Over a year and a half ago, we wrote about the success of the local diving community in Florida with the sinking of the USS Kittiwake. It created another artificial reef and a site worth visiting for any diving enthusiast. In addition to recalling some facts, we have a video for you showing what this magnificent wreck looks like today.

After a long 7 years of preparation, the USS Kittiwake a former submarine salvage vessel, rested on the bottom at Seven Mile Beach on Grand Cayman Island. Luckily for the divers, the wreck was planted perfectly on the keel, which makes navigation during the dive easier.

The USS Kittiwake is 76 metres long and has 5 decks so there is plenty to explore. The wreck became the newest artificial reef in the Caribbean Sea when it was sunk.

The new dive site, is a great example that patience pays off and it is worth fighting to realise your plans. After years of effort and preparation, Florida now has a location that is highly attractive for any underwater activity. Whether it is diving or underwater scooter racing – it does not matter, the important thing is that something is happening!

Below is fresh footage recorded by Krzysztof Starnawski with a GoPro camera:
