Joining Forces with Ocean Heroes for deep underwater archaeology (SDSS) and preservation work.

Halcyon Dive Systems is thrilled to partner with the Society for Documentation of Submerged Sites (SDSS), a collaboration that underscores our commitment to advancing underwater archaeology and preservation. At Halcyon, we have always valued the importance of collaboration and the endless pursuit of knowledge across all underwater disciplines. Supporting SDSS aligns perfectly with our mission, as this non-profit organization is dedicated to safeguarding and researching submerged heritage that spans historical, cultural, and biological realms.

One of the most exciting projects arising from this partnership is a month-long expedition slated for August 2025. This initiative will focus on exploring the Battle of the Egadi site, a groundbreaking discovery in the world of underwater archaeology. This site marks the first time an ancient naval battlefield has been located alongside its associated artifacts, providing a tangible connection to the past and the momentous Roman Republic victory over Carthage.

THE SDSS – Society for the Documentation of Submerged Sites

The Society for the Documentation of Submerged Sites (SDSS) is a pioneering organization dedicated to exploring and meticulously documenting extraordinary submerged locations around the globe. Affiliated with Global Underwater Explorers (GUE), SDSS boasts international teams of volunteers, including highly skilled technical divers, documentarists, and explorers capable of safely and efficiently operating beyond the typical depth limits of scientific diving. Their expertise allows them to conduct detailed surveys and other scientific operations in the largely unexplored underwater environment ranging from 50 to 150 meters below the sea surface.

SDSS plays a crucial role in unveiling the mysteries hidden beneath the waves, preserving and researching underwater heritage to understand the historical, cultural, and biological narratives these sites hold. Employing cutting-edge technology and innovative exploration methods, SDSS ensures that the significance of these underwater realms is recognized and protected for future generations. Their efforts not only contribute to the field of underwater archaeology but also enhance our appreciation and understanding of the world’s submerged cultural treasures.
