Canary Islands (Spanish: Islas Canarias, official name of the administrative unit Comunidad Autónoma de Canarias) – an archipelago of mountainous islands of volcanic origin located in the Atlantic Ocean northwest of the coast of Africa and classified as Macaronesia. The islands belong to Spain and form two provinces: Santa Cruz de Tenerife and Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.
