Diving fairs and events cancelled due to coronavirus

A number of diving events that were to take place in the near future have been cancelled due to the threat of the COVID-19 virus. Among the upcoming events whose organisers have decided not to expose participants to unnecessary risk are the Wiatr i Woda fair, Podwodna Przygoda and the Głębiny diving film festival.

I will not dwell on the virus itself or how to behave, because all sorts of experts (also pseudo-experts) and the topic itself are probably already above our ears. Information about the coronavirus is flooding in from all sides and probably nothing new could be said. So let’s try to stay sane and calm, and this combination will certainly not harm anyone.

All over the world due to the threat of the COVID-19 virus various mass events are cancelled, cinemas and museums are closed and games in all sports are cancelled. The situation is no different in diving, especially since the turn of the first and second quarter of the year is always the moment of the greatest accumulation of various events in our industry.

The Wind and Water and Underwater Adventure fairs planned for this weekend will finally not take place. It is hard to argue otherwise. Although the organisers seemed to believe in the success of the event until the last moment, subsequent exhibitors resigning from appearing and cancelling their participation contributed to taking the only right path and cancelling the fair.

In turn, on the following weekend, 20-21 March, the largest non-commercial diving event was to take place – the ‘Głębiny’ Diving Film Festival. Concerned for the health of the participants, the organisers decided not to take any risks and moved the whole event to next year. The new date is 19-20 March 2021. Being a media patron of the festival, we will keep you informed about the event itself and all the details.

Also around the world a number of diving events, which were to gather a large part of the diving community, were cancelled. The biggest ones are, of course, TEK Dive USA 2020 and ADEX Ocean Vision 2020 taking place in Singapore, while in Sweden the Dyk Massan – The Scandinavian Dive Show in Gothenburg was cancelled.

Let us hope that all the events will be able to take place at somewhat more convenient dates, once the situation surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic has been brought under control. At the moment, the most important thing is everyone’s health, so we need to take care of ourselves, not panic and calmly follow the situation. On our part, we encourage you not to leave home if it is not necessary, and for boredom inside the four walls we recommend… reading DIVERS24, of course.
