I start the week with an overdue report from the Podwodna Przygoda diving fair. The event, which took place on 9-10 February 2013 in the capital’s Palace of Culture and Science, is the largest event of its kind in our country.
Diving enthusiasts and those just intending to start their adventure had the opportunity to familiarise themselves with a wide range of equipment, training and trips. Representatives of all branches of the diving industry, who willingly talked about their products and activities, were present at several dozen stands.
Of course, there could not miss the series of lectures accompanying each edition of the fair – the so-called Nurgres. Extremely interesting lectures and presentations, as usual gathered crowds of listeners. Next year the organizers must think about a larger room, or not inviting Krzysztof Starnawski. A leading figure in the Polish diving world, he is a real magnet for listeners. No wonder that there were not enough free seats at the meetings with him.
Among the novelties, two products caught my attention. The first is an inconspicuous bottom timer from XDeep, while the second is a heating waistcoat from No Gravity. Interestingly, both products are the result of the work of our domestic producers of diving equipment.
Xdeep’s computer will go on sale in late spring, most likely in May, but before then we will certainly publish more information about it. As for today we know that the bottom timer will cost about 1000pln and will be expandable to a nitrox and trimix computer.
The No Gravity waistcoat is already on offer at many dealers of the Szczecin-based company and is a great counterbalance to competing products. It is distinguished by quality workmanship with attention to the smallest details and technical parameters.
In addition to the waistcoat, the gentlemen from No Gravity also presented a prototype of a dry suit and a wide range of warmers and diving underwear. No wonder that the manufacturer, who is taking the market by storm and gaining users’ recognition, needed 7 people to operate their stand, which was one of the most crowded places during the fair.
This year’s fair was record-breaking in many respects. Both the number of exhibitors and visitors definitely exceeded the level known from previous years. It is clear that the organisers have learnt from the mistakes and difficulties encountered in previous years, but one can never completely avoid slip-ups. The biggest drawbacks were the spontaneous traffic jams in the fair alleys and the poor signposting of the whole area. Despite everything, these were minor inconveniences that could not spoil the overall very good impression left by the 2013 edition of the Podwodna Przygoda diving fair. See you next year!
