Do you remember the object discovered a year ago at the bottom of the Baltic Sea, looking on sonar images like the Millenium Falcon from the Star Wars saga? Swedish divers from the Ocean X Team decided to unravel its mystery and organised an expedition to find out what lies at the bottom of the Baltic Sea.

11 June 2011. A group of 9 divers and treasure hunters went on another search. Their area of interest was the eastern part of the Swedish Baltic coast. While scouring the seabed, suddenly a strange, large, round object appeared on the sonar screen. On closer inspection, it appeared to look just like… a spaceship from a George Lucas film.

From the materials collected in 2011, there was no way of knowing what we were actually dealing with. Weather and difficult conditions in the area meant that the expedition to the bottom of the Baltic had to be postponed until now.

Upon arriving at the site, unfortunately no explanations awaited the divers; on the contrary, questions began to multiply.

“Upon reaching the bottom, the first thing we came across were some rock formations. As we swam further we came across more formations that were arranged in something like a necklace of pearls, or looked like a place where someone wanted to build a fireplace on the bottom of the ocean, with stones a few cm in size,” – said Stefan Hogeborn

“During the next dive, the dive team brought along a hammer which they used to take samples of the stones they found. On thelast dive, they still came across a strange hole in one of the rocks forming the circle,” added Hogeborn

The material collected has been passed on to experts for analysis, and we have yet to see the results of their work.
