Diver killed by white shark off Australian coast – video

Media from Australia are reporting a shark attack on a diver. The incident occurred in the western part of the country, off the coast of Esperance County. According to available information, the man was probably attacked by a great white shark while diving. The whole situation happened in front of a woman who accompanied the man on the boat.

The tragic dive took place near Cull Island at around 1.30pm local time. The search for the shark attack victim, which is being carried out using vessels and a helicopter, by a combined force of police, local divers and Fisheries officers, is still ongoing.

The attack happened when the man was a few metres from the boat. The woman, who witnessed the whole incident, called for help, but by the time the surrounding vessels reached the scene, all that was left of her companion was a floating piece of diving equipment. The woman suffered severe shock and was therefore transported to hospital.

Cull Island is famous for its protected bays and abundant lush flora and fauna. The area is extremely popular with divers, fishermen and those who enjoy snoorking. The shark attack at this location is the second in the last 3 years. In 2017, a great white shark was the culprit in the death of a 17-year-old surfer.

Local authorities are warning, reporting increased danger and advising caution. Several tagged white sharks have recently appeared in the area.
