In recent days, Croatian media have reported on the deepest dive carried out in the country. According to the reported information, Luigi Casati – a cave diver from Italy, dived to a depth of 248 metres. The dive was conducted as part of the “Stone galaxy” cave expedition.

The record-breaking dive took place in the area of Lake Sinjca and the Zrmanje River. For Casati, diving in Croatia is not the first time. Nine years ago, diving at the source of the River Una, he reached a depth of 204 metres.

The person concerned was extremely excited about his dive. As it turns out, however, it’s not about depth at all, but about the profile of the cave, which changes significantly around 180 metres.

“It’s fantastic because the cave changes shape and colour completely. Up to 180 metres it is darker, brown, but beyond that it gets much brighter and visibility itself improves significantly.” – Luigi Casati reports on his dive

It took the Italian about seven hours to descend to a depth of 248 metres and return to the surface. The depth reached is Casati’s personal record.

“It took me about 40 minutes to dive to a depth of 248 metres, while it took nearly six hours to return to the surface,” – Casati told reporters

The Stone galaxy project brought together 70 experts from 12 countries. These included cavers, cave divers, biologists, geologists and representatives of other disciplines.
