Last week an unpleasant situation took place near the Costa Concordia wreck. A group of professional divers employed to clean up and remove the wreck were arrested while attempting to steal it.
Italian police have announced the arrest of two Britons and two Africans who were spotted making an unauthorised entry into the wreck. Investigators found that the perpetrators were all employed by the Titan-Micoperi Salvage Consortium.
In the early hours of the morning Carabinieri were alerted to the whole situation by CCTV surveillance staff who spotted a diver climbing aboard the damaged ferry.
The arrested robbers were found with empty backpacks bearing the logo of the company employing them, which immediately decided to release them. As you can see, some people cannot resist temptation and will take any opportunity to get a little richer.
We wrote about the work involved in lifting and hauling away the wreck in our September article. So far, it has been the largest operation of its kind, with experts from all over the world working together.
