On Saturday, April 9, in Zielonka near Warsaw, the “Raja” diving centre, the Polish Angling Association (circle no. 23 in Zielonka) and the Town Hall of Zielonka organised a clean-up of Glinianki. Divers, anglers and scouts from the Zielonka Scout Troop took part in the action initiated in connection with the Water Cleanliness Week.

The results of the clean-up by the combined forces of the volunteers filled the entire rubbish container. Among the objects found were such curiosities as a TIR tyre, which took some effort to remove, a bucket, a pot, several smaller tyres and countless glass and plastic bottles and cans.

As it turned out Glinianki is quite an interesting body of water. The deepest depth recorded during the clean-up is a little over 3 metres. The bottom is muddy, so visibility does not exceed 1-2 metres, but the water is clean and suitable for swimming,” the organisers said.

The divers managed to clean two of the four clay ponds. The anglers, meanwhile, took care of organisational matters, provided transport between the reservoirs and, together with the scouts, cleaned up the banks and shallows. At the end of the day, hot drinks, pea soup and sausages awaited each participant, courtesy of a local restaurateur.

Maximilian Allweil from the diving centre “Raja” assured that this is not the end of the action to clean up the clay ponds, and already in June, a repetition is planned. Of course, we encourage everyone to take part in this action, as well as to organise similar events at your local reservoirs!
