It was almost a year ago that it was announced to the world that the world’s deepest diving pool would be built in the UK. The previous record holder, Italy’s Y-40, has yet to establish itself as the leader and has already received the news that it should not get used to the title of deepest pool in the world.
After an intensive period of behind-the-scenes work and a huge amount of work not visible from the outside, the creators of Blue Abyss have announced that they are another step closer to achieving their goal. To mark the occasion, the graphic below has also been published, which shows the concept that is being realised in the county of Essex on the outskirts of London.
Being built in the UK, the facility will hold 35,000m³ of water, making it the largest and deepest pool in the world.
What is expected to set it apart from others is its focus on such branches as professional diving, testing and research into the development of ROVs and AUVs, and work on space projects. Of course, there will be plenty of room for recreational and technical divers, the pool will be widely available for training purposes, and is also expected to have a mission to promote diving as a sport. All based on modern facilities that meet the highest standards.
The designers did not forget about such essential elements of this complex as a hyperbaric chamber, a simulator allowing to create a state of weightlessness, which is necessary in projects related to e.g. the Moon or Mars, where gravity is much lower than on Earth. The complex will be complemented by a hotel with 120 rooms, 6 lecture halls and a canteen.
Blue Abyss will be built near the English capital in the county of Essex. The complex is intended to become the largest training facility for recreational divers, technical divers, freedivers and professional divers in the world! Taking into account the great condition of the British diving world, as well as great transport connections in the vicinity of the English capital, there will certainly be no shortage of people willing to visit.
Interestingly, in addition to divers and lovers of underwater activities of all kinds, the pool will also be used for training purposes by the European Space Agency (ESA).
In addition to the swimming pool, the location will have parking, a hotel and all the infrastructure that visitors, coming from as far away as the world, may need.
