An unusual discovery has been made in the waters of the Vistula, specifically in the Żerań Canal! In the middle of the month, a wonderful anchor was found there, dating back to the times of the Swedish Deluge!

The city guard and the police were informed about the unusual find by a local angler who reported coming across an “antique iron construction”. The officers arrived on the spot and after several dozen minutes they found the “antique object”, which turned out to be a forged iron anchor.

The anchor was lying at a depth of about half a metre. After being lifted from the bottom, it was retrieved aboard a boat and delivered to the shore, after which the relic was transported to the river commissary by radio car.

The wrought iron artefact has a wooden element and has been provisionally classified as coming from the times of the Swedish Deluge. It was via the Vistula River that the Swedes floated everything that could be looted from the invaded Poland to the Baltic Sea.

[blockquote style=”2″]”The place where the anchor was found is most probably the place where the barges on which the Swedes exported their most valuable goods during the Swedish Deluge were sunk. On two occasions, officers of the River Police Station in Warsaw assisted archaeologists from the University of Warsaw in excavating as many as 99 objects such as doorframes, floors, lintels and other valuable marble decorations from the then Kazimierz Palace. The finds also included cannons, armour, guns and more contemporary items from the Second World War.” – reads a statement from the River Commissariat police[/blockquote]

We would like to take this opportunity to mention and recommend to everyone an extremely interesting publication which, after many years of expectations, has finally appeared on the publishing market – “Uratowane z Potopu”, whose authors are Hubert Kowalski and Marcin Jamkowski. The book had its premiere on 19 September 2018 and is available together with the film on DVD.
