Yesterday, Monday 22 June, a fatal accident occurred in the waters of Italy’s Lake Garda, in which a 45-year-old diver from Poland died. According to available information, it was an advanced technical dive carried out solo. Rescuers found the body of the dead diver at a depth of 160 metres.

According to the description given by the Italian media, the man arrived at Lake Garda accompanied by his own mother. He conducted the dive alone, at a point between Tremosine and Limone, on the Brescia side, where the maximum depth is 368 metres. After he did not reappear for a long time the concerned woman called for help.

Rescuers received the report after 15.00 and a considerable force was deployed to the scene. Police officers, a fire brigade diving team, the coastguard and even a helicopter from Venice were dispatched. An ROV was also used in the underwater search, which located the man’s body.

The Italians do not yet know what caused the accident or what the purpose and assumed depth of the dive was. However, the media stresses that conditions were very good. The site has also been described as unlucky, recalling two fatal accidents involving Poles in 2018 and 2019.
