Every year, diving as a sport is becoming more and more popular and is present in many areas of everyday life. Everyone can find something for themselves, regardless of their passions and interests. What we want to share with you today is an attempt to root underwater madness in the extremely thriving and billion-dollar-profit video game business.

While surfing the net, I came across the website of the producers of the game “Depth”. Despite the fact that I don’t follow the computer game industry, I know that so far no “diving” title has achieved success, otherwise it would be famous among fellow divers, who compulsively loot everything they can.

“Depth” is a production with a not very complicated (also new to me) story line, but apparently the power is in simplicity. The game was created based on multiplayer mode, where players are divided into 2 teams. One of them are people-divers, wanting to get (as it usually happens with us humans) indescribable riches in the form of priceless treasures lying in the waters off the coast of Mexico, while on the other side are voracious (how else?) sharks, eager to leave jaw marks on the opponent’s neoprene and simply attack their bellies.

In order to achieve their goal, the authors have prepared a special set of equipment or skills for each team, which is to be used to outwit and defeat the opponent. The diving team, apart from the standard hunter’s set in the form of a crossbow and a knife, will have a whole bunch of gadgets and technological novelties at their disposal, so as to strongly emphasize the advantage of a man over a fish, while the player playing a shark, apart from poor vision (realism must be right?) will use what nature has given him, that is a sense that allows you to sense the movement of a potential victim and a super sense of smell to easily find a bleeding fugitive.

What will be the fate of “Depth”? Will it find recognition and audience? Or maybe it will turn out to be another dud and will go unnoticed? I do not know, but I am glad that there are attempts to transfer the diving to the virtual world, which in the future may result in interesting positions, close to reality, and thus the popularization of this sport among the cyber audience.
